Certificate
The Certificate combines the strengths of the MPA Program's Core Year with an individually tailored seminar. It is a year-long, 15-credit experience, joining the 14-credit Core Year to a one-credit special seminar in the spring semester designed by Certificate participants to focus on learning goals of special interest. (See certificate courses for details.) The Certificate is intended for individuals who want the Core Year experience, but are not interested in the degree; and for those who would like to try out the Program before committing to the degree.
The Certificate Program does not include a practicum experience, but those who wish to add it are encouraged to do so. It is highly recommended because of its value as a learning tool. Participants may choose public, nonprofit or private organizations as practicum sites. The faculty advisor will work closely with each person to make arrangements. Scheduling for the three-credit practicum is flexible. It is usually six to eight weeks in duration.
